Back to 3D, and a Game Called Lucky!

A lot has happened since the last post, so here is an update.

Sandy and ARC9 is a 3D game again

In September I told you I had set the 3D version aside and was building a 3/4 view, tile-based version instead. Well. I changed my mind back. I just could not let go of the importance of elevation and vistas. More importantly, maybe, I solved my road and intersection problem in the 2D game, and was able to bring the solution back to the 3D world. I also completely revamped the procedural world generator for the 2D world - and I did it in a way that would directly translate to the 3D version. So we are back in 3D. And, get this, the world is 100 square miles. Some very cool tech was built to make a 100-square-mile world work well on a mobile device.

The world is still built from the real Camden, Maine: the streets from OpenStreetMap, the hills from USGS elevation data (yes, Mt Battie is in there), and the trees placed and sized from canopy maps of where trees actually grow. Walk down Main Street at night and the shop windows are lit. Wander out to the park at dusk and the maples have turned.

Here is a clip from the pre-release version:

ARC9 out for a walk, from a pre-release build.

I am going to open TestFlight to a few more internal people soon, and hope to have a proper Early Access beta by the end of the year. There is still a lot left to do.

Meanwhile, I made another game

In October Synty Studios ran the Synty Spooky Jam, and I could not resist. The result is Lucky!, and you can play it right now in your browser on itch.io.

You are Lucky, a robot dog and trusted steed of the last baby on earth. Keep Baby happy during the day. Fight off zombies at night.

Building a game front to back in a week was a blast. Thank you Synty for putting on a fun game jam.

How can you help?
